What is the drug Aranesp used to treat?
This medication is used to treat anemia (low red blood cell count) in people with long-term serious kidney disease (chronic kidney failure) and people receiving chemotherapy for some types of cancer (cancer that does not involve the bone marrow or blood cells).
How long does it take Aranesp to work?
Aranesp® “tells” the cells in your bone marrow to grow into new red blood cells within your bloodstream. Under healthy circumstances, it takes your body time to produce red blood cells (about 26 days 3,4,5,6). Increases in hemoglobin may not be observed until 2-6 weeks after you start taking Aranesp®.
