What is Liu Kang backstory?
Earthrealm’s champion had a humble upbringing. Orphaned as a young boy in his native China, Liu Kang was adopted by the Shaolin Monks who raised him in their beliefs and taught him martial arts. During his training, he formed a fraternal bond with fellow student Kung Lao and found a mentor in the thunder god, Raiden.
Why is Liu Kang so powerful?
Two Liu Kangs from different parts of history merged together into one being, with Raiden handing over his godly power, giving us an incarnation of Liu Kang that was not only a god but had control over both electricity and fire. This was the upgrade needed to destroy Kronika and put Liu Kang in control of time itself.
Why did Liu Kang become a zombie?
Liu Kang was an infamous example of a zombie in the MK series. Raiden, who was corrupted by his suicide, had used necromancy to reanimate Liu Kang’s body as an enforcer of the dark thunder god’s will. Raiden had then unleashed Liu Kang’s active corpse to destroy those who Raiden believes have caused harm to Earthrealm.
Who killed Liu Kang’s brother?

One night, the sorcerer Shang Tsung visited the Monks’ Temple and confronted Chan. The two fought, but Chan was easily defeated by the sorcerer. Shang Tsung killed Chan and took his soul, leaving a cryptic message for Liu as a warning. Chan’s dead body was found the next morning by his grandfather and fellow Monks.
