Is it OK to go outside with a new tattoo?
If you must be outside, always keep your tattoo covered, for at least the first 40 days. Cover Up with clothing or try to stay out of the sun. Never apply any sunscreen on a fresh tattoo. Some of these products have ingredients that are not good for your fresh ink during healing.
Should I get a tattoo on the inside or outside of my forearm?
The inner forearm is a great tattoo location for multiple reasons. The fact that it’s turned in toward your body makes it a good place to tattoo something more personal. As a highly visible tattoo location that you’ll see every day, it’s perfect for getting a tattoo that is meant to serve as a reminder to yourself.
Do I need to wrap my tattoo when I go out?
Wrap the tattoo after the first night (wearing breathable clothes over it is fine as long as they are not causing friction. (Keeping tattoos wrapped in plastic or bandages will stop air from getting to the tattoo, slow healing, and make gross stuff grow in there.)
How long after getting a tattoo can you go in the sun?
At the very least, make sure not to expose a new tattoo to direct sunlight for the first month of having it—especially the first two weeks. Not only will sun exposure cause the tattoo’s colors to fade, as previously mentioned, but it may also burn your skin and scar it from sun damage.

How painful are outer forearm tattoos?
Getting the outer forearm inked isn’t incredibly painful. In fact, most recipients only rate it about a 2 or 3 on a 1-10 pain scale. There are few nerve endings in this part of the arm to make the needle’s action feel something like a slight, yet constant pinch—no big deal.
What happens if you don’t wrap your tattoo?
You will most likely experience some scabbing and or skin peeling during the healing process. Do NOT pick at the scabs or dead skin. Doing so can damage the tattoo by removing ink and creating a faded look within the areas you picked. No one wants a new tattoo to look uneven or washed out, so again DO NOT PICK!
How do you fix sun damaged tattoos?
For a sunburned tattoo
- Hop into a cool shower or run cool water over the sunburned area to reduce pain and swelling.
- Moisten your sunburned skin with aloe vera or soy lotions, or apply a thin layer hydrocortisone cream if the sunburn is especially painful.
- Take aspirin or ibuprofen to reduce redness, swelling, and pain.
