The NGV Members Lounges are open from 10am–4.30pm during Gallery opening hours.

Level 3, NGV Australia Crossbar Café provides a modern and bright area with views of the Yarra River for you to take a break and enjoy light snacks, coffee and beverages.

Can I bring food into NGV?

#3 Avoid queuing to purchase food by bringing food from home to enjoy in the Great Hall or Grollo Equiset Garden. Please note that you will be required to cloak large bags that can’t be stored under a pram, when you enter the Gallery. #4 If you are visiting with a child, note that NGV Kids exhibitions can be busy.

Is NGV membership tax deductible?

All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible. Donations of all sizes are welcome. Individuals will be recognised as Members of the NGV Foundation through cumulative donations of $20,000 or bequest pledges of $40,000 or more.

Can you take photos in NGV?

Visitors are permitted to take photographs with hand-held cameras in non-restricted areas within the National Gallery of Victoria for personal use. All restricted areas display signage at the entrance of the exhibition or gallery space advising of the photography restrictions.

Is NGV free?

Entry to the NGV Collection is free; however entry fees may apply to special exhibitions.

What is free at NGV?

NGV International houses the Gallery’s collections of International art and is open 10am–5pm. Entry to the NGV Collection is free; however entry fees may apply to special exhibitions. If you’re planning to visit a specific work of art please contact us to check if it will be on display.

Is it free to visit the NGV?

Can I visit without a ticket? General entry to NGV is free with fewer visitors and more physical distancing in all areas of the Gallery. Bookings are not required to visit NGV International or The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, Fed Square.

Do you have to book to go to the NGV?

Bookings are essential for all school and student groups. To protect the wellbeing of our community, NGV has implemented timed sessions with limited capacities for visitors. Large school groups may need to be split over different entry times.
