What is Vectran rope used for?
Vectran fibers are used as reinforcing (matrix) fibers for ropes, electrical cables, sailcloth, and advanced composite materials, professional bike tires, and in electronics applications.
What makes Dyneema so strong?
Dyneema® has extremely long molecular chains that transfer load more effectively to the polymer backbone. So it’s stronger at the same weight or lighter at the same strength than alternatives. Dyneema® fiber is 15x stronger than steel at the same weight, with a tensile strength up to 43 cN/dtex.
Is VECTRAN a Kevlar?
The major difference between KEVLAR and VECTRAN is flexibility. VECTRAN is on the order of 8 to 14 times more flexible depending on the style of KEVLAR. This allows VECTRAN to be used in applications with small diameter pulleys and drive trains with multiple bends.
Is VECTRAN a polyester?
Vectran® is an aromatic polyester spun from a liquid crystal polymer in a melt extrusion process. This process orients the molecules along the fiber axis, resulting in a high tenacity fiber.
Why is Dyneema so expensive?
The exclusive patent that Royal DSM has on Dyneema explains, at least partly, why it’s more costly than other materials, as does the high demand for everything from climbing ropes to industrial applications.
Is VECTRAN better than Kevlar?
The major difference between KEVLAR and VECTRAN is flexibility. VECTRAN is on the order of 8 to 14 times more flexible depending on the style of KEVLAR. This allows VECTRAN to be used in applications with small diameter pulleys and drive trains with multiple bends. KEVLAR (2) 23 565 3.60 7.0 max.
